WATER SANITATION AND HYGIENE PROJECT
Rain for Growth in San Juan, Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines
A project implemented by Signpost Philippines in partnership with Signpost International funded by Big Lottery Fund (BLF) in United Kingdom (UK).
WHY WE PROVIDED THIS KIND OF PROJECT?
Communities have limited access to safe water, sanitation and poor understanding of health and hygiene.
PROJECT COMPONENT
Potable water through Rainwater harvesting systems in the community and in three (3) public elementary schools
Sanitation through public toilets
Health and hygiene awareness through education
RAINWATER HARVESTING FACILITY (RHF)
We have built four(4) rainwater harvesting systems located in the heart of Brgy San Juan community and one (1) in each of three(3) schools namely, Baluarte Elementary School, San Juan Elementary School, and Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School).
The RHF is managed by the Water and Sanitation Committee comprising of local people and representatives of local stakeholders.
Systems in schools are managed by the school with support from the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA).
Procedures are in place to allow equitable distribution of water.
THE TECHNOLOGY
SkyHydrant Water Filtration Unit
The SkyHydrant™ water filtration unit is a lightweight, sustainable and affordable water filtration system for humanitarian projects and emergency and disaster relief. This low pressure, high-flow, ultra-filtration technology meets World Health Organisation requirements for safe drinking water.
